Fortnite & 140+ Games Face Compatibility Issues on Nintendo Switch 2

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, launching June 5, 2025, promises backward compatibility — but not every game is playing nice with the new hardware.

Nintendo has released an official update confirming that several major titles — including Fortnite — are experiencing startup or gameplay issues on the new system. While most games will work, nearly 200 titles are affected by technical problems ranging from crashes to missing features.

🕹️ Fortnite Hit by Startup Bugs on Switch 2

One of the most notable games affected is Fortnite. Players have reported that the current Nintendo Switch version fails to launch on Switch 2.

💡 Good news: Epic Games and Nintendo have confirmed a Switch 2-optimized version of Fortnite will be available on launch day, ensuring players can jump back into the battle royale experience with improved compatibility and performance.

⚠️ Compatibility Breakdown: Games Affected on Switch 2

Nintendo has categorized game issues into three major buckets:

❌ Games With Startup Issues (141 Titles)

These games fail to launch or crash on startup.

Notable examples include:

  • Fortnite

  • Dead by Daylight

  • Doom: Eternal

  • Rocket League

  • Final Fantasy

  • Warframe

⚙️ Games With In-Game Bugs or Performance Issues (47 Titles)

These games launch but experience bugs, glitches, or lag:

  • Alien: Isolation

  • Fall Guys

  • Harvestella

  • Overcooked! All You Can Eat

🕹️ Motion-Control Games With Hardware Compatibility Problems

The new Joy-Con 2 controllers feature hardware changes that break compatibility with certain motion-control games:

Game Issue with Joy-Con 2
Ring Fit Adventure Joy-Con 2 doesn't fit in the Ring-Con
1-2-Switch, WarioWare: Move It! Lacks IR motion camera for required inputs
Nintendo Switch Sports (soccer) Joy-Con 2 incompatible with leg strap

❌ Labo VR Is Fully Incompatible

Nintendo confirmed that the Labo VR Kit is completely incompatible with Switch 2. The new console cannot be inserted into the Toy-Con VR goggles, rendering the experience unusable.

Other Labo Kits — Variety, Robot, and Vehicle — have limited or no support depending on hardware configuration.

  • ⚠️ Fortnite won’t launch on Switch 2, but a new version arrives June 5

  • 141 games fail to start on Switch 2 at launch

  • ⚙️ 47 games run with bugs or in-game issues
