Fortnite’s New Anti-Cheat System: Player Unbans, Legal Actions & Updated Rules

Epic Games Strengthens Anti-Cheat Measures in Fortnite

Epic Games is intensifying its efforts to maintain competitive integrity in Fortnite, introducing stricter anti-cheat protocols, updating tournament requirements, and revising player ban policies. The company has also taken legal action against cheaters and exploiters, reinforcing its commitment to fair play.

New Security Requirements for Competitive Tournaments

To combat cheating in high-stakes tournaments like the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), Epic Games now mandates that PC players enable Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Secure Boot when participating in events requiring an Account Level of 350 or higher.

  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM): A hardware-based security feature that ensures core system integrity and prevents tampering.

  • Secure Boot: A safeguard against malware and unauthorized software that could compromise fair play.

By enforcing these measures, Epic aims to eliminate common exploits used by cheaters to gain an unfair advantage in competitions.

Epic Games Takes Legal Action Against Cheaters

Beyond technical safeguards, Epic Games is aggressively pursuing legal action against individuals involved in cheating and rule violations. Recent lawsuits and enforcement actions include:

  • Lawsuits Against Account Resellers: Epic has taken legal steps against individuals stealing and reselling Fortnite accounts, a violation of their terms of service.

  • Tournament Cheating Penalties: A recent case resulted in a settlement with a player caught cheating in competitive events.

  • Ban on External Cheat Devices: Following legal action, Fortnite-related cheats and scripts were removed from Cronus devices, hardware known for granting unfair advantages. The use of these devices is now strictly prohibited and will result in permanent bans.

Violating these anti-cheat policies can lead to account bans, forfeiture of tournament winnings, and potential legal consequences.

Fortnite Revises Player Ban Policy: A Second Chance for Some

Starting in April, Epic Games is modifying its approach to bans, introducing a more lenient policy for first-time offenders while maintaining harsh penalties for repeat violations.

  • General Cheating: A first offense results in a one-year matchmaking ban, while a second violation leads to a lifetime ban.

  • Tournament Cheating: First-time offenders face a one-year matchmaking ban and a permanent tournament ban, with a second offense leading to a lifetime account ban.

  • Selling Cheats & Major Violations: No leniency—lifetime bans remain in place.

This shift in policy has fueled speculation that FaZe Jarvis, a well-known Fortnite player previously banned for using cheats, could be reinstated under the new rules.

Will Jarvis Get Unbanned?

According to trusted Fortnite insider HYPEX, Epic Games plans to unban all players who received a lifetime cheating ban lasting over a year. If confirmed, this would mean that players like Jarvis, who were permanently banned for cheating, could regain access to the game starting in April.

“Fortnite will soon UNBAN all players who received a lifetime cheating ban that has lasted over a year. This is part of their new policy, coming in April, which gives cheaters a second and final chance.” — HYPEX (@HYPEX)
